Implementing Evangelization in Parishes
in the Archdiocese of Anchorage

The Mission of the Archdiocese of Anchorage

The Mission of the Church, and therefore of our Archdiocese, is to bring people to Christ. In this way we build up the community of faith that fosters the holiness of its members and the coming of the Kingdom. Each strives to that goal which was outlined by St. Paul:“It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me” (Gal 2:20 RSV)

The Archbishop, in collaboration with his pastoral leaders, will adopt strategic goals for the Archdiocese as a whole whose purpose is to implement these two national pastoral plans in the life of the Archdiocese. These strategic goals will be incorporated into the Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan for Evangelization. (from the Archdiocesan guideline for implementation)

The Three Goals of Evangelization

Goal 1

To bring about in all Catholics such an enthusiasm for their faith that, in living their faith in Jesus, they freely share it with others.

Goal 2

To invite all people in the United States, whatever their social or cultural background, to hear the message of salvation in Jesus Christ so they may come to join us in the fullness of the Catholic faith.

Goal 3

To foster Gospel values in our society, promoting the dignity of the human person, the importance of the family, and the common good of our society, so that our nation may continue to be transformed by the saving power of Jesus Christ.

The Pastoral leader of every Archdiocesan faith community [parish], in collaboration with the faith community’s Pastoral Council (or other suitable group), will adopt a Plan for Evangelization (PFE). Each PFE will include strategic goals whose purpose is to implement Go and Make Disciples and Our Hearts were Burning Within Us in the life of its faith community. (Archdiocesan guideline for implementation)
